Important Information about Washington Catholic School Closure
March 13, 2020
In light of everything occurring globally with the Coronavirus, Washington Catholic Schools will be operating through Extended Learning days beginning Monday, March 16 through Friday, April 3. We have consulted with the Daviess County Health Department and the Indiana Department of Education, as well as collaborating with other districts around the state, and feel this preventative measure is in the best interest of Washington Catholic students and families at this time. There have been no reported cases of the COVID-19 virus at this time in Daviess County, but all area health and education leaders agree this is the best way to minimize risk of illness and protect our students.
This closure means all school activities as well as school-related events are cancelled or postponed. All sports and extra-curricular activities are suspended through April 6 as well. Cardinal Care and Washington Catholic Preschool will be closed through April 6.
Students at Washington Catholic Elementary and Middle/High Schools will continue learning through an Extended Learning format. Here’s what this means for Washington Catholic students:
- Teachers will communicate daily assignments though Sycamore Education.
- Teachers will be available to assist students from 9-11 and 1-3 daily.
- Students will have a combination of book and online learning activities to complete that continued classroom instruction.
- We will work with families who do not have internet access at home to provide alternative assignments.
- We will be on Spring Break from Monday, March 23 through Friday, March 27 - there will be no assignments on these days.
We will communicate information about Extended Learning assignments through Sycamore beginning Monday. We will provide you with all necessary log-in information as well as methods for contacting teachers. More information will follow about expectations for student learning during this time. Please listen to all school messenger messages and check your email frequently, as we will be sharing information with you regularly.
Miss Jane and Miss Krista will make information to families of 3-4 students outlining learning targets 3-4 students need to work on during this time. Bridge students will bring home a letter for families today explaining how families can continue learning for these students, too. Students in Miss Amber’s 4-5 morning class will receive a letter in the mail with this information.
Please know that the safety of our students is our top priority. Thank you for your patience and understanding in this difficult time. Please keep our community in your prayers, especially those who are sick or elderly. Join us as we pray for families and parents affected by these changes. We are happy to answer any questions you have, and will continue to be in touch as plans develop.
